Ingredients

  • 16 ounces (452g) full-fat block cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (113g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 ounce (28g) packet dry ranch seasoning mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked crispy and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup (57g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped

Equipment

  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Electric Mixer or Spatula
  • 1 Baking Sheet For cooking the bacon.

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, 1 cup of shredded cheddar, the ranch seasoning packet, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until fully incorporated and smooth.
  2. Scrape the cheese mixture onto a large piece of plastic wrap and form it into a tight ball. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
  3. On a shallow plate, combine the crumbled bacon, the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar, and the chopped green onions. Unwrap the chilled cheese ball and roll it in the mixture, pressing gently to coat all sides.
  4. Serve immediately with crackers, pretzels, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

Start with Softened Cream Cheese: For the creamiest texture, let your cream cheese sit at room temperature for at least an hour before you begin.
Shred Your Own Cheese: Grating a block of sharp cheddar will yield a better flavor and texture.
Don't Rush the Chill: A well-chilled cheese ball is firm and easy to handle.
Coat Just Before Serving: For the best texture, apply the bacon, cheddar, and green onion coating on the day you plan to serve it.
