Ingredients

Smash Burger Bowl Components
  • 1.5 lbs Yukon Gold Potatoes cubed into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 tbsp Avocado Oil or other high-heat oil
  • 1 lb Ground Beef 80/20 blend preferred
  • 1 cup Yellow Cheddar Cheese freshly shredded
  • 3 cups Iceberg Lettuce finely shredded
  • 1/2 cup Dill Pickles sliced into rounds
  • 1/4 cup Red Onion finely diced
  • 1 tbsp White Sesame Seeds toasted
  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Yellow Mustard
  • 1 tbsp Sweet Pickle Relish

Equipment

  • 1 Large Baking Sheet For roasting potatoes
  • 1 Cast-Iron Skillet For searing beef crumbles
  • 2 Mixing bowls For sauce and assembly

Method

Roast the Potatoes
  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Toss cubed potatoes with oil and salt on a baking sheet.
  2. Roast for 25-30 minutes, tossing halfway, until golden-brown and crispy.
Sear the Beef
  1. Heat a cast-iron skillet on high. Add beef in chunks and sear undisturbed for 4 minutes until charred.
  2. Break beef into crumbles. Turn off heat and drape shredded cheddar over the meat to melt.
Assemble
  1. Layer shredded lettuce and crispy potatoes in bowls. Top with cheesy beef crumbles.
  2. Add pickles, onions, a heavy drizzle of special sauce, and toasted sesame seeds.

Notes

Use cold lettuce to contrast the hot beef.
Always toast your sesame seeds for the best burger-like aroma.
